Meet the family

Gary & Bob Tisovich.

A hands-on, tradesman-oriented company that works directly with the owner or contractor to make the building process as easy as possible.

Robert “Bob” Frank Tisovich, the youngest son of Frank, graduated from Ely Memorial Senior High, attended Vermilion Community College, and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota Duluth. He worked as a construction accountant for large national firms in Chicago and Minneapolis and as business manager for a regional road-construction firm in Ely. He is President of the company and still works in the field on the jobs.

Gary Frank Tisovich, Frank’s oldest son, is a lifelong Ely resident who trained in heavy equipment operation and maintenance at Staples Vocational Technical College. He is field foreman and the shop mechanic who keeps the fleet running.

Horses with a load of logs

    Pre-1920

Before World War I, Charles Tisovich Sr. came to the United States from Slovenia by himself at 14 and took his team of horses into the woods to transport logs. His sons Rudy, Charlie and Frank grew up working alongside him.

  2. A log truck in the snow

    1930s

The brothers bought some of the first trucks in the Ely area to haul logs out of the woods.

  3. An early bulldozer

    1948

Rudy was killed in Italy during World War II. Charlie and Frank added one of the first shovels in the Ely area in 1948, and later a bulldozer, expanding into construction while continuing to truck.

    Frank’s era

Frank bought out Charlie’s share and expanded into underground utilities, residential and commercial earthwork and road building. Gary and Bob’s earliest memories are cleaning dirt off the machine tracks in the old repair shop.

  5. A semi tractor in the 1980s

    1980s

In the early 1980s Gary started his own trucking business hauling forest products to regional wood-product plants.
